JAMES CAMERON'S AVATAR THE GAME

The video game is set on Pandora, an alien planet moon featured in the motion picture. The game includes the Na'vi, Pandora's indigenous people and other life forms. The player controls a marine named Lance Corporal Able Ryder. Soon into the game the player decides to play the RDA or Na'vi. If the player decides to join the Na'vi, the game becomes a third person adventure, and RDA characters are unplayable. If the player chooses to side with the RDA, the game remains a third person shooter, and Navi characters are unplayable. Both types of characters are equipped with their own particular weapons and abilities, with many other weapons and abilities unlockable as the player gains experience (XP) during the game.

DEADLY DOZEN

Deadly Dozen is a 2001 World War II oriented squad-based first-person shooter (FPS) video game. The title refers to the famous World War II movie The Dirty Dozen. As in the movie the main protagonists are military misfits sentenced to death or long term imprisonment who are given a chance to redeem themselves by going on dangerous missions. The twelve characters have different specializations: sniper, demolition expert and so on. For every mission the player selects four of the characters who form the squad. The game consists of a string of squad missions set in the European theater as well as in the Pacific theater. It was developed by nFusion.

DEATH TO SPIES MOMENT OF TRUTH

Moment of Truth is a sequel to the popular stealth action title Death to Spies. The game’s main character is Semion Strogov, a captain in the 4th department of the Soviet counterintelligence service called SMERSH. SMERSH, a Russian acronym that means “Death to Spies,” was the name of a set of Soviet military counterintelligence departments that were formed during World War II. Strogov is back from his previous missions and must now participate in a series of even more complicated and exciting military operations under the code name “Death to Spies: Moment of Truth”.

The hero possesses the skills to accomplish dangerous missions that include gathering information on the location of hostile military and civil units and assassinating enemy agents, including the Wehrmacht’s high-ranking officers. His task is to capture spies and saboteurs and gather information about their actions using unique technologies and devices.

ABOUT SMERSH: On April 19, 1943 the Commissariat of Defense of the USSR established a Counterintelligence Directorate known as “SMERSH” (a Russian acronym meaning “Death to Spies”). This organization was commissioned to combat anti-Russian intelligence and sabotage activities carried out by foreign secret services, primarily those of Hitler’s Germany. Intelligence and counter-intelligence activities behind enemy lines were carried out by the officers of the 4th Department of the “SMERSH” Chief Directorate. They received the most complicated and dangerous of tasks: espionage, counter-intelligence, sabotage, as well as operations that involved identifying, kidnapping and/or assassinating enemy VIPs.

This is a third-person stealth-action game describing the activities of the SMERSH, the most mysterious secret service agency of World War II.

COMMAND AND CONQUER KANE'S WRATH

In the first act of the campaign (set immediately after the conclusion of Tiberian Sun), Kane enters a bunker deep in the Earth's crust apparently healed of all injury save for his face mask. He instructs the player to begin the Rio Insurrection by taking out the GDI presence in the area. After the player succeeds, Kane informs the player of his plan to reunite the Nod splinter factions. Since he cannot risk revealing himself to the world yet, he chooses Brother Marcion, the leader of the "new" Black Hand to convey Kane's will to the Brotherhood in his stead. The player is then commanded to drive Marcion out and capture him. Brought before Kane, Marcion comes back into the fold of the Brotherhood as Kane reveals himself to him, and removes his face mask, showing a completely scar-free face. Kane then orders the player to destroy a Liquid Tiberium facility in the Australian Outback as a 'grand gesture' to the remaining splinter factions to rejoin him.

During the second act (set before and during the events of Tiberium Wars), Kane begins to lay down the plans for the destruction of the Philadelphia, commanding the player, LEGION, to steal plans for the Ion Cannon network. Since the destruction of the Philadelphia would eliminate most of GDI's leadership, Kane predicts that Redmond Boyle will be his pawn and become the Director of GDI, so as to provoke the future liquid Tiberium explosion. The player is also ordered to capture Dr. Alphonse Geraud from his research facility, explaining his disappearance in the GDI campaign of C&C3. Afterwards, Abbess Alexa Kovacs has taken the view that General Kilian Qatar is a traitor to Kane, and plans to have her discredited by attacking Temple Prime in her guise, then leaking Ion Disruptor technology to GDI,thereby leading to General Qatar's execution being ordered by Kane. She reveals her doubts and fears about LEGION, and about LEGION being connected to the Tacitus during a cutscene before a mission and also tells the player(LEGION) that CABAL's cyborgs murdered her family, and is worried as LEGION is based upon the same technology that created and powered CABAL. After the Tacitus is secured on a mission, a highly distressed Abbess Alexa loses her cool and infects LEGION's core systems with a powerful computer virus while screaming: "I cannot let you connect to the Tacitus! I will not let you usher in an age of machines. I will not be your slave! I will not!". The virus destroys LEGION's systems, and Kane is alerted to LEGION's infection and catches Abbess Alexa red-handed in the act of destroying LEGION. Kane discovers to his horror that Alexa attacked Temple Prime in Killian's guise and had Kilian executed for a crime she did not commit. Alexa snatches a pistol from one of the guards as she is about to be taken away for interrogation and aims at Kane with it. Clearly beside herself, she shouts Nod's motto "Peace through power" and then commits suicide by shooting herself in the head, just as LEGION shuts down.

In the third and final act, LEGION reawakens five years later in the post-Tiberium War 3 period, and Kane focuses it on recovering the Tacitus. GDI has been meddling with the device, causing it to become highly unstable; Kane needs the Tacitus for his master plan, so he orders the player to first awaken the Marked of Kane, a faction of cyborgs that only LEGION is capable of controlling due to its link with the destroyed CABAL. With the successful reactivation, Kane then sends the player to recover the Tacitus from GDI's NORAD. After the Tacitus's successful capture, Kane connects it to LEGION, and the AI becomes infused with the vast knowledge of the object, ending the game in a cliffhanger. The ending video shows a reverse of the Scrin campaign introduction video in C&C3.

New game content

The first DVD delivers each of the games with their most recent patches applied (except Command & Conquer: Red Alert which wasn't delivered at the latest version due to the latest patch being a beta version), all of which are bundled into a single installer. Many fans were disappointed that the original installers for the games, which were known to be very immersive and graphically pleasing, were not included. They were replaced by a single standard InstallShield wizard installer. The installer does enable the player to pick and choose what to install and what not to install, but assuming that all the games are selected, a total of 7 separate serial keys need to be entered.

The compilation comes as its own program, with a launcher which allows to choose between the installed games. A third-party shortcut installer has been made to create shortcuts for each of the individual games.

Internet multiplayer

Many fans have been disappointed by the fact that internet multiplayer did not work in the first two games upon The First Decade's release because the separate "Westwood Chat" program which they relied on had not been updated. There is a sticker stating this on the box, but it was not made clear in the pre-release publicity and as a result some users bought the compilation believing that the games, including all online capability, had been updated. While an official solution has not been introduced, a third-party patch is often used to provide a two player C&C Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert internet game, but it is not especially reliable. The unofficial patch 1.03 provided a more stable fix for this issue.

Bugs and Patches

Many bugs have been reported to be present in Electronic Arts' The First Decade pack, including some that didn't affect the original releases of the games. EA responded by releasing two patches: 1.01 and 1.02; and the possibility of a third was suggested by the C&C Community Manager, Apoc. No official third patch was ever released but an unofficial 1.03 patch was created by NathanCNC and presented on EA's CommandAndConquer.com website.

The official patches mainly fixed bugs with the First Decade software while the unofficial patch fixed bugs in the Command & Conquer and Red Alert games. It also removed unnecessary video files (freeing a gigabyte of space), integrated downloadable Westwood map packs, fixed online and LAN play for all games (except Renegade and Generals, which already had fully functional online capabilities), and included PDF manuals for each game. Apoc claimed "This patch is a MUST-HAVE for any C&C: The First Decade Owner! [sic]".

EA only provides support for their official patches and have stated they will not support this unofficial patch. However, no issues have been reported and many of the fixes it contains have been used in previous third party additions without caveat.

CODENAME: PANZERS COLD WAR

Story

The storyline starts in 1949, and follows an alternate history, with the timeline diverging into a war between the Soviets and the West. Following the defeat of the Nazis, Germany has been partitioned into Soviet and Allied zones of control, with the Soviets building up their military presence in readiness for a new war. During the Berlin airlift, a Soviet fighter collides with a US cargo plane,USSR 5 and 6 Division attack West Germany, and the next day Berlin becomes a savage battlefield between the two Superpowers. The player takes the side of either the USSR or the USA and its allies, with the storyline said to involve characters from the two previous Codename: Panzers titles. Gameplay

Codename: Panzers Cold War is a Real-time strategy similar to previous Codename: Panzers games, except that it is set in the first days of the Cold War and features a brand new graphics engine. The game has futuristic elements, with some of the technology present in the game surpassing that which was available at the time of the Berlin airlift. The game features powerful squad leaders and upgradeable units, buildings that can be destroyed or occupied to gain an advantage, a detailed physics engine and weather system.

The single player component of the game is a campaign with 18 missions, while the title also ships with over 20 multiplayer maps. Co-operative play is supported, along with team deathmatches and a "domination" mode. The game will also feature famous war machines like the famous Soviet Mi-6 which is known as the world's biggest helicopter, the first jet MiG fighter MiG-15 and its US counterpart F-86 Sabre, a few famous tanks for that time like the T-62, IS-10, T-54/55, M48 Patton, M-26 Pershing and other armored units.

The gameplay of Codename: Panzers Cold War will share several features with previous iterations of the franchise. Units will require a constant stream of munitions to function, and the interface will be familiar to players of the previous titles in the series.

COLD FEAR

Plot

In Cold Fear the player takes on the role of Tom Hansen, a former soldier now in the employ of the United States Coast Guard who has been sent in to investigate a mysterious Russian whaler Eastern Spirit in the middle of the Bering strait. The beginning cut-scenes show a SEAL team under the orders of a CIA agent, identifying the ship and trying to discover its cargo. Unfortunately, the SEAL squad is slaughtered mercilessly by an unknown threat. CIA agent Bennett then orders any government vessel in the vicinity of the Russian boat to investigate, and it is Hansen's ship which responds. As Hansen, the player finds out that the boat is occupied by hostile Russian soldiers and by strange creatures, known as "exocels", that use humans and other life forms as hosts, to feed on and to use as protection from the environment. These parasites are a threat to Hansen from inside and outside their host bodies. His investigation leads to the mystery of the ship and its lethal cargo, as well as the unethical experiments which were being carried out aboard the ship.

Gameplay

In Cold Fear, players can choose between a behind-the-shoulder camera angle or a fixed camera angle. The game employs many scare tactics. For example, when opening a door, a creature may jump out at the player, or while talking to an NPC, a creature may just burst out of his chest. Cold Fear employs a stamina bar, which decreases as the player performs certain actions, like running.

The conditions on the deck of the ship can change how the player can control Hansen. Since the game takes place in the middle of the ocean during a storm, there is a lot of movement of the vessel as it bobs up and down through the rough seas. The cargo ship continuously banks left and right while Hansen is walking on deck, making it more difficult to aim and to walk in a straight line. In some instances, the ship rocks so much, and to such a great degree, that Hansen can get knocked down and possibly sent overboard. There are also many environmental hazards, like swinging electrical wires and crates hooked up to ropes, which are also affected by the swaying of the ship, and can easily crash into the player or enemies if they aren't careful. Waves crashing on to the ship's deck may also inflict damage on a player's health. The environmental hazards can also be used against enemies.

COMMAND AND CONQUER RED ALERT 3 UPRISING

Plot

The Soviet and Allied campaign assume that the Allies' had achieved victory in Red Alert 3, while in the Imperial campaign, the Allies and the Soviets still have a peace treaty.

Soviet Campaign

The Soviet campaign focuses on the remaining Soviet resistance trying to stop FutureTech, the Allied defense contractor, which plans to create a super weapon called the "Sigma Harmonizer" (a device to selectively stop time).

Allied Campaign

The Allied campaign concentrates on defeating several renegade Imperial warlords who still resist Allied occupational forces. Emperor Tatsu has seemingly begun to cooperate with the Allies, but ends up with trying to defeat the commander, as his power is restored by the fall of Takara, the last enemy commander in the Allied campaign.

Imperial Campaign

The Empire's campaign covers the fight against the Soviets who attempt to conquer parts of Japan. The Allies are also partially involved. Emperor Tatsu greets the commander at first mission. On the second he orders the commander to protect the tomb of his father Yoshiro, the Emperor of the Rising Sun in Red Alert 3.

Yuriko Campaign

The Yuriko campaign recounts the story of her creation, her captivity by the Allies and her fight to rescue her sister. The Yuriko campaign uses different controls and camera than the rest of the game, allowing only to see the screen in which Yuriko is located and disabling the sidebar including minimap.
